Helen M. Griffin

Helen M. Griffin, 95, of Jaffrey, NH, died peacefully at Summerhill Assisted Living Center in Peterborough on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Helen was born in Jaffrey on January 7, 1927, and a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Fortunato and Nettie Mei and was a 1945 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey.

Helen is fondly remembered for her 45-year career as the bookkeeper at Belletete’s, and was also very active in her hometown, serving on the Board of Adjustment, with the Recreation Department, and with typing and re-typing of Volume IV of the Jaffrey Town History, prior to computer scanning. She was also instrumental with the Tolman’s Ballroom Dance Lessons that took place in the Jaffrey Grade School for many years, as well as the Roller-Skating program at Pratt Auditorium.

Helen was an avid knitter and lovingly made the black and orange hats for many of the Conant High School teams to wear before and after their games. She was a strong supporter and followed her grandchildren’s sports teams wherever they played. Helen also knitted many tiny beanies for the NICU babies born at Brigham & Woman’s Hospital in Boston after her own family needed two.

In addition to her parents and brother, Julio Mei, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph T. Griffin on May 20, 2019, whom she married on May 22, 1948.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Dan and Marsha of Jaffrey, David and Tammy of Jaffrey, and Dale and Beth of Weare, NH; her 7 grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family who she loved dearly.

The Griffin Family extends a sincere Thank You to the entire staff at Summerhill for the care and friendship given Helen at the place she fondly called “home” for the past 3 yrs.

Abiding by her wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Family and friends are warmly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00am in Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Conant Cemetery in Jaffrey.

In lieu of flowers, Helen requested memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
