James E. DuMont

James E. DuMont, 90, of Jaffrey, NH, passed away on May 28, 2023, at the Monadnock Community Hospital with his wife by his side holding his hand.

He was born on April 15, 1933, in Claremont, NH, the son of the late Cassius and Thelma DuMont. James grew up in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1953, serving until 1956 where he served in the Occupation Forces in Germany and the Korean War.

After his time with the United States Army, James earned his GED from Fitchburg High School in 1958 and later attended Franklin Pierce College.

He was extraordinarily talented with sales and held sales positions with Summit Supply Co, Eagle Eye Fence Company, and F. W. Webb Co., and was a member of the F.W. Webb Co. One Million Club by making sales of more than One Million dollars for 5 years. In addition to his talents with sales, he was active with his community, serving on Team Jaffrey and was instrumental in the restoration project of the Park Theater in Jaffrey. His favorite job was a crossing guard for Jaffrey Public Schools as he especially loved the children, who lovingly called him “Mr. D.”   He was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5613 in Jaffrey, NH holding positions as Adjutant and Senior Vice Commander, and was also a Member of the Masons.

James was predeceased by his wife, Patricia M. DuMont, his parents; Cassius and Thelma DuMont, his six siblings; Carol Burkett, Charlene Jones, Ronald DuMont, Henry Helie, Denis Helie and Philip Helie.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Nowd-DuMont of Leominster, MA, his four children: James P. DuMont of Kuna, ID, Bobbi B. Cabrera of Marina, CA, John P. DuMont of South Hadley, MA, and Joseph P. DuMont of West Springfield, MA, eight grandchildren; Nicholas Cabrera, Ian DuMont, Isabella Alcaraz, AJ DuMont, Jenna DuMont, Jacob DuMont, Brianna DuMont, and Bruce DuMont, one great grandchild, Tessa Cabrera, as well as his first wife Barbara (Forgues) Barrett as well as many friends and extended family.  

His favorite sayings were, “The man brought you to it, he will get you through it.” And “Follow your heart.”

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon MA, 01475.
