Janet S. Magoun, 95, longtime resident of Jaffrey, NH and Cochituate, MA, died on October 31, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Jaffrey.
She was born on April 9, 1923 in New Orleans, LA, older daughter of the late William C. and Mary (Warriner) Shively. She graduated from the Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State University) in Natchitoches, LA, in 1943 with a degree in Physical Education, and worked at the YWCA in New Orleans as a Phys. Ed. instructor and life guard afterward.
She was married to Theodore R. Magoun from 1946 until he predeceased her in 2008. They lived for many years in Cochituate, MA, where she volunteered for the Red Cross and the Cub Scouts, and served on the Board of Directors of the Parmenter Health Center.
She taught early childhood education at the Meadowbrook School of Weston, MA and the Knowlcroft School in Cochituate, MA, for several years each.
Upon their retirement in 1978, she and husband Ted moved to the family home in Jaffrey.
She was a loving wife and mother, a voracious reader, an active gardener and an avid student of oil and watercolor painting and various handicrafts.
She is survived by two sons, Peter R. Magoun of Traverse City, MI and Matt S. Magoun of Bedford NH, their wives, two nieces, three married grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and was awaiting the birth of a sixth at the time of her passing.
SERVICES: In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal services held. She will be interred privately next to her loving husband in the Cutter Cemetery, Jaffrey, NH.
