Joseph A. Szmyt

April 23, 1941 — December 11, 2015

Joseph A. Szmyt, 74, resident of Jaffrey, NH, died suddenly with his wife, Ruth, and son, Joshua, by his side on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Monadnock Community Hospital.
Born on April 23, 1941 in Lowell, Mass, Joe was one of three sons of the late Theodore and Marie Rita (Barrett) Szmyt.

Joe was raised and educated in Boston and graduated from Chelsea High School. He served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in June of 1967. In 1987 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business at Husson College in Bangor, Maine.
He resided in many places including Massachusetts, Maine, North Carolina and New Hampshire.

Joe had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, fixing his 1970 Oldsmobile 98 convertible, riding his motorcycle, and most importantly – spending time with his wife and family, and playing guitar.

In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, Joe is survived by his children: James Szmyt of Berwick, ME; Joseph Szmyt, Jr. (and wife Patti) of Farmington, NH; Christianna Jackson (and husband Gavin) of Dover NH; Katrina Allan (and husband Christopher) of Stratford, NH; Christine Carlson (and husband Murphy Attiliadias) of Wasilla, AK; William Carlson of Wasilla, AK; Tammy Poliquin (and husband Peter) of Poland, ME; April Doucette (and husband Peter) of Berwick, ME; and Joshua Szmyt (and wife Kelly) of New Ipswich, NH. He is also survived by his brothers: Theodore Szmyt (and wife Nancy) of Danville, NH and Richard Szmyt (and wife Cynthia) of Tampa, FL. And, 15 grandchildren (and another one on the way), 1 great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with Joe’s wishes, services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

Donations would be appreciated in lieu of flowers, made in Joe’s name to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
