Listen to Obituary

Kathryn “Kate” Hammer Kerman, 76, slipped away from us on July 28th, 2025 in Keene, NH, surrounded by family in her final hours. Born on April 16th, 1949 in Los Alamos, NM, she was a Quaker, farmer, educator, writer, an exceptional friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and a fierce advocate for children and non-violent conflict resolution.

After growing up in Madison, WI and State College, PA she attended Kalamazoo College, MI, where she met her future husband, Ed Kerman. She received a teaching certificate from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI and raised three children in rural Michigan and urban Philadelphia. She wrote pamphlets about homeschooling and Therapeutic Touch before becoming a faculty member at the Meeting School in Rindge, NH. Moving to a farm in Marlborough, NH, in 1996, she supported women farmers through the Small and Beginner Farmers of NH and aided mediation and conflict resolution through Cheshire Mediation and the Keene High School Peer Mediation program. She earned a Master's Degree from Lesley University, MA, to support her conflict resolution work.

Beyond her immediate family — her husband of 55 years, three children, two grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers — she leaves behind a vast network of extended family, beloved friends and colleagues who will miss her warmth, wisdom, advice, hearty laugh, and no-nonsense approach to life and relationships.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life gathering at 12:30PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Monadnock Friends Meeting, 3 Davidson Road, in Jaffrey, NH.
