Laurel was born on August 12, 1943 in Pontiac, Michigan, to Matt and Irma (Heikkila) Aho. She grew up on a family dairy farm in Calumet, MI, with her brother, Chester, and sister, Bonnie. Laurel’s parents were very active in 4H which instilled in her a love for animals and country living. She then taught these values to her children. She would speak of her childhood home with fondness and precious memories. As the years went by she and her family would often visit the farm to see her parents.
Laurel attended the church conventions where she met her future husband, Timothy Ojala. Tim and Laurel were married in Calumet, MI on August 26, 1964 and blessed with 60 years of marriage. They resided in Ashby, MA, until they moved to New Ipswich where they raised their family.
Tim and Laurel owned Kidders Restaurant in New Ipswich from 1985-1990. Afterwards, she opened Sunrise Bakery where she served the community with Finnish nisu and bakery.
Laurel’s love for her family was her priority. She will be dearly missed and remembered by all. Laurel enjoyed visitors, was always welcoming, and had such a warm smile and spirit.
Laurel enjoyed family history and records, poetry, Epoch Times, plants, and her 16 year old dog, Nikki (who passed away two days after her). She enjoyed learning natural health, learning new remedies and sharing what she had learned. Laurel loved to listen to sermons and hymns. She loved Jesus Christ and knew Him as her personal Savior.
Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister-in-law, Judy Aho.
Laurel is survived by her husband, Tim; her brother Chester Aho of Hancock, MI and sister Bonnie Pollock (with Ed) of Ely, MN.
