Lawrence J. ‘Larry’ Boutot, 78, of Rindge died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Jaffrey after a brief period of failing health.
He was born in Madawaska, Maine on March 16, 1940, son of the late Fred and Elsie (Durand) Boutot. At the young age of 10, Larry began playing the accordion, and from there, his lifelong love of music flourished. His talents grew to include drums, piano and banjo. By the time he was a teen, Larry had already formed his own band, Larry’s Trio, and was recruited as the drummer for the Canadian Playboys of Edmunston, New Brunswick.
Larry had great compassion for others, and as early as grade school, this quality did not go unnoticed by a certain young lady for whom Larry would often carry school books and trumpet. After they graduated from Madawaska High School in 1958, Larry married Brenda Boucher in August of 1959, and together they began their family and life journey that would last 59 years.
While still living in Maine, Larry began working in the paper mills for Frazier Paper. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he shared his love for the outdoors as a hunting guide in Maine’s Allagash. Larry and Brenda eventually moved to Nashua where he worked in paper conversion for Nashua Corporation and electronics for Kollsman Inc. in Merrimack. Larry never stopped making beautiful music. He played his banjo with the ‘Yankee Strummers’ and performed at grand locations such as the Hatch Shell in Boston. Eventually, Larry’s musical talents allowed him to do what he loved most, and he began travelling throughout southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts, playing at nursing homes and brightening the resident’s days.
Larry has called the Monadnock Region his home, having lived in Greenville, Winchendon and Rindge, where he enjoyed sailing on Lake Monomonac and boating with his grandchildren. Being highly creative and resourceful, he was gifted with whatever he endeavored to accomplish with his hands and always had one or more projects going at the same time. Whether he was working on home improvements or plans for new ideas, his most important tasks were always being a loving husband, father and Pepere.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his son, Kevin Boutot and two brothers, Roger and Wilbert Boutot.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Brenda Boutot of Rindge, NH; his 3 daughters, Debra Howard of Jaffrey, Kathleen Boutot of Milford, Sandra Desmarais and husband Matthew Desmarais of Rindge; his son, Charles Boutot and wife Rebecca Boutot of Lancaster, 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his 2 brothers, James Boutot and Raynold Boutot, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Larry’s life with his family on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202 South) Jaffrey, NH 03452. Rev Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Church in Jaffrey, will lead everyone in a memorial service at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
