Leo J. Somero

Leo J. Somero, 93, a lifelong resident of New Ipswich, NH, died peacefully at Summerhill Assisted Living on March 18, 2016 after a period of declining health.

He was born on June 24, 1922 in New Ipswich, a son of the late Matti and Olga (Strom) Somero.
Leo married Ellen (Muhonen) on October 28, 1950 and together they raised their family in New Ipswich.

He worked for many years for Seppala & Aho Construction as a Supervisor. After his retirement, Leo enjoyed doing woodwork and made many items that his family and friends still enjoy.

In addition to his parents, Leo was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Ellen, in 2014 and two grandchildren, Damon Bertram and Sonya Reini, and by two of his brothers, Levi and Robert, and his only sister, Elna Gross.

Survivors include Leo’s children, his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Aila Somero and Karl and Julie Somero of New Ipswich, and his son, Harvey Somero of Lantana, FL; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Edward Estola, Martha and Dean Bertram and Carolyn and Colin Kinnunen, all of New Ipswich, Anita and Bruce Reini of Rindge, NH, Glenda and LeRoy Isaacson of Lake Norden, SD and Eileen and Jeff Deakins of Sophia, NC. Leo is also survived by his sixty-one grandchildren and seventy great-grandchildren, and by his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Elizabeth Somero, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 117 Goen Road, New Ipswich, NH.

The Funeral Service for Leo will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM, in the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Burial will take place later in the spring at the Smithville Cemetery in New Ipswich.
