Lifelong Jaffrey resident, Lorraine 'Toot' Parent, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, after a period of declining health, with loved ones by her side.
Lorraine was born in Jaffrey, on October 24, 1927, to parents Hector and Caroline (Foisey) Parent. Her parents, a sister, Elizabeth 'Charlotte' Parent, and brothers Francis, Elliott, and Frank, all predeceased her.
As a big, loving part of several generations of families in Jaffrey, Toot participated in all their festivities and gatherings. Toot’s ability to tell a story and explain the familial connections of all the families involved was unparalleled. Some recollections she loved to regale the family with was her youth spent on North and Peterborough Streets, playing basketball at Conant High School (a sport she enthusiastically supported all her life), dancing at Winchendon and Lake Contoocook dance halls (harmonizing with friends on the way), and working in the office at D.D. Bean & Sons. Over the years her parties were legendary: her and her sister’s annual Fourth of July event, Halloween parties, and Thanksgiving with her pork stuffing and tourtières (“too-kays”). She was an active member of St. Patrick Parish all her life. To say she remained active always is an understatement – visiting with friends, taking trips to experience the world, attending special events with all her families, and participating in town occasions.
Often without being asked, Toot offered her assistance in many ways to her friends, her families, her church, and her neighbors, at any time of day. She would say that she was “always on call”. She could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and leave them smiling.
Celebrating her life and remembering how she touched so many in the community will happen on Thursday, April 9, 2026, beginning at 11:00AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 and a reception immediately following Mass. Complete information will be announced at Mass. Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers, Toot requested memorial donations be made to either St. Patrick Parish, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 or to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
