Margaret "Maggi" Agnes (Dillon) Duncan

Margaret "Maggi" Agnes (Dillon) Duncan, a longtime resident of Ledyard, bid farewell to this world April 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and warmth that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her.

Maggi was born in Providence, R.I. Sept. 19, 1948, to her late parents, James and Kathleen (Cournoyer) Dillon. From the very beginning, Maggi radiated a spirit of kindness and compassion that would define her remarkable life. She grew up with her four Dillon siblings: Jim (Greenville, R.I.), Kate Brennan (Omaha, Neb.), Mary (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and the late Gerry Dillon. In their parents' loving and happy home, the five brothers and sisters formed close bonds that would endure for the entirety of Maggi's lifetime. Her many nieces, nephews and cousins were also a beloved part of her treasured family circle.

Maggi was married to the late Wally Duncan for almost 50 years. Their union was a testament to love and commitment, spanning nearly five decades of shared joys and trials. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love and unwavering support for their children. Maggi's greatest joy was found in her role as a devoted mother to her two sons, Chris (Griswold) and Jon (Fair Lawn, N.J.). She poured her heart and soul into nurturing them, imparting values of compassion, integrity and resilience. Chris, married to Katie, blessed Maggi with grandchildren, Morgan and Nicky, bringing immense happiness into her life. Jon, married to Liz, further enriched her world with grandchildren, Ryan, Jack and Isabel, whom she cherished beyond measure.

Throughout her illustrious career in the field of education spanning 49 years, Maggi served as a beacon of inspiration as a special education teacher, with the majority of her tenure dedicated to LEARN. Her unwavering dedication and passion for enriching the lives of her students touched countless hearts, leaving an indelible mark on the community she served. A very proud moment for Maggi and her family was being named Teacher of the Year in 1991-92. Maggi was a graduate of St. Pius V School, St. Xavier Academy and Rhode Island College where she also earned a master's degree. Maggi's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and her devout Catholicism provided her with strength and solace through life's trials. She found joy in her spiritual journey, finding comfort and guidance in her unwavering belief, particularly during her final days.

Beyond her professional and familial roles, Maggi was a woman of many passions. She possessed a curious wanderlust spirit, finding joy in exploring new destinations and cultures. Her love for literature led her to countless adventures through the pages of her favorite books. However, her greatest joy was found in the company of cherished friends and beloved family, creating treasured memories that will endure for generations to come. While Maggi may have departed from this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her laughter, wisdom and expansive and boundless love will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

In honoring Maggi's memory, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love, ensuring that her light continues to shine brightly in this world. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and grace that she so freely shared.
