Mary Ann (Demarest) Auth, 91, of Hancock, NH, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday May 26, 2021, after a brief period of failing health.
Mary Ann was born on January 9, 1930, in Hackensack, NJ, daughter of the late Daniel Edward and Eleanor (Hymers) Demarest and sister of the late Cynthia Kelly.
She spent her early years in New York and Oradell, New Jersey. Summers were spent in Hampton Bays, NY where she met her future husband.
On May 23, 1959, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Gordon Auth, in Oradell, NJ and they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage together. They lived on Long Island, NY for 24 years where she and Gordon raised five children. In 1983 they moved to Hancock.
Mary Ann was an avid reader. Her love of books led her to several years volunteering at the Hancock Town Library. She loved nature and took a special interest in the birds and other wildlife visiting her in the yard always being sure they were well fed. Her dog Trouble was a faithful companion of 18 years.
Mary Ann is survived by her 3 daughters, Marie Cunnion of Libertyville, IL, Mary McMahon of Old Lyme, CT, and Margaret Auth of Hancock, NH; her 2 sons, Charles Auth of Henniker, NH and Daniel Auth of Greenfield, NH; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
A graveside committal will be celebrated at 12:30PM at St. Peter Cemetery on High Street in Peterborough on Friday June 4, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Harris Center for Conservation Education, 83 Kings Highway, Hancock NH 03449.
