Meaghan Siobhan Sullivan, who celebrated the beauty of the world around her, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 44. Born on May 10, 1982, in Peterborough, NH, Meaghan grew up in Hancock and graduated from ConVal High School.
Meaghan possessed an adventurous spirit and a deeply spiritual nature. She was fascinated by world religions and was especially drawn to the teachings of Buddhism and Hinduism. Her early adventures took her across the world, where she spent a half-year immersing herself in the culture of Nepal, and another six months exploring her roots in Ireland.
Following these foundational experiences, Meaghan moved to the Southwest, living for years with her brother in Tempe, Arizona. Together, they shared countless adventures in the backcountry of the Sonoran Desert. While in AZ, she attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Her career path was diverse and creative, just like her interests. In Arizona, her love of animals led her to work at an exotic animal hospital, where she cared for everything from lizards and birds to residents of the Phoenix Zoo. Later, during her time in Maine, Meaghan developed an interest in the culinary world, where she was instrumental in launching and running local restaurant businesses.
After returning home to her New Hampshire roots, Meaghan channeled her spirit into the earth, establishing herself as a self-employed gardener in Hancock. She worked hard in the local community, finding physical and emotional strength in the company of her plants. She became a member of the Peterborough Garden Club.
More than anything, Meaghan was defined by her unlimited kindness and generosity. She was a truly selfless person who always thought of everyone else before herself. She had an artist’s eye, finding joy and meaning in small expressions of nature. A sunbeam on the moss, or a little garden snake in the ferns. She was a talented photographer who was enthralled by the behavior of light outdoors. She had a knack for finding beautiful and special pieces of art that she rarely kept for herself, but always shared as gifts for her loved ones. Music was a constant in Meaghan’s life, along with an appreciation for poetry.
She is survived by her beloved dog, Rumi; her mother, Maribeth; her brother, Sean, and his wife, Cheryl; her cherished niece, Josie; her many aunts, uncles cousins and her devoted friends. She was predeceased by her father, John P. Sullivan, who taught for many years at ConVal.
A service for Meaghan will be held at the First Congregational Church of Hancock on Saturday, October 17 at 11:00AM. A reception will follow at the Vestry next door. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Live Free Animal Rescue.
Meaghan left us with a reminder to “Be open to Beauty and Magic in our world and in the universe.”
