Melba Ruth Loudin—“Ruth” to everyone who loved her—passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of January 19, 2026, surrounded by family. She was 92. Born on September 20, 1933, in the beautiful state of West Virginia, Ruth carried the mountains in her heart all her life, delighting friends and family with stories from her beloved home state.
Ruth lived an active, wholehearted life. She found joy in simple, steady rhythms—long walks, a good book, and a fresh poem to tuck into memory. She volunteered after school with the Good News Club, sharing kindness, patience, and faithful encouragement with children and families. Over the years she worked in roles that reflected her servant’s heart: as a diner server, a nursing home aide, and in housekeeping for two school districts. Whatever the job, Ruth brought dignity, care, and a ready smile.
Family was her happiest place. She loved gathering everyone close, often hosting grand and great‑grandchildren with a plate of treats and a new adventure to imagine. Ruth had a gift for wonder; she wove tales of fairies with the ease of a born storyteller and kept a tiny vial of “fairy dust” in her purse—just in case a little extra magic was needed. She lived by the Golden Rule, and it showed in every gentle word and helping hand.
Her faith in the Lord was the quiet, steady thread of her days. Ruth remained active in her church for many years, and even as her health made attendance harder, her prayers, hymns, and hope never waned. She loved reading, history, poetry, and music across many genres and decades—her soundtrack as varied and welcoming as the life she lived.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel Loudin, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her children Carol Loudin, Patrick Loudin, Elizabeth Indano, and Lorne Loudin, as well as several grandchildren and great‑grandchildren who will carry forward her stories, her songs, and her sparkle.
Today we rejoice that Ruth is with the Lord, free from pain and disease. We miss her deeply, but we look forward to the day we’re reunited with her—and with Dad—again. Until then, her love lives among us and within all who knew her.
We are unable to have services at this time; however a Graveside Service is scheduled for Ruth on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM in Conant Cemetery, Stratton Road, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Flowers will be most appreciated.
