Nancy J. Stratton

Nancy J. Stratton, 85, of Jaffrey, NH, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Pheasant Wood Nursing Home in Peterborough, NH. Nancy was born in Waltham, MA, on February 02, 1938, daughter to the late Warren J. and Violet M. (Benger) Kenney.

She grew up in Watertown and attended Watertown High School, graduating in 1955.  She began her career as a Nurses Aid, at Waltham Hospital, and later with the help of Uncle Sam, was able to earn her Licensed Practical Nurse degree at Leominster Trade School LPN Graduate Course February 1967. She would go on to continue her nursing education and later graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College with an RN degree. She worked in various nursing positions throughout her career, with most of her career in the medical facility at North Central Correctional Institution (NCCI) in Gardner Ma, all while raising her children. She cared deeply for people and poured her heart and soul into her career.

Nancy had a deep love of family. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and attending family events, she always said she was going to “keep it simple” yet never did! She always loved entertaining others; she truly was “Fancy Nancy”. She had a great sense of humor and liked being silly to make people laugh.

 Additionally, she was an avid gardener and loved the outdoor adventures to include camping, and canoeing,  She loved visiting her sister in Maine and going to the seashore to collect seashells and taking long walks along the shore. She also had an adventurous soul and enjoyed traveling, be it jumping in her car with no destination in mind and driving around exploring new places and seeing new things. She also enjoyed trips abroad, having visited both Alaska and Italy, Rome.

Nancy was predeceased by parents and her daughter, Lynda Whitaker in 2012, and later her.

husband Frederick Stratton in 2016.

Nancy will forever be remembered by her six children, son George Wattendorf and his wife Sandy, of South Sutton, NH, son Mark Wattendorf and Maureen LaChance, of Florida, daughter Mary Blake and her husband John, of Fitzwilliam, NH, son James Ryan and his wife Cynthia Brady, of South Hadley, MA, son John Wattendorf of Hyannis, MA, son Newell Whitaker, of Peterborough, NH, and her sister Kathy Gray and husband Larry of Scarborough, ME, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephew, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and friends

Per the request of Nancy, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Nancy will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Troy NH.
