Nora J. Swierczynski, 92, died peacefully on March 6th. Born in Durham, Ontario Canada, Nora was a longtime resident of Springfield, VT and more recently Keene, NH. Nora is predeceased by her husband Henry Swierczynski with whom she shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. She is also predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Jessie Darling; sisters Joan, Grace, and Sheila Darling; and grandson Cyrus Cross. Nora is survived by her children: Sonia Swierczynski (Tom Kelley), Andrea Carey (Phil), Diane Howard, Deborah Swierczynski (Billy Greer), Peter Swierczynski (Lisa) and Barbara Stonesifer (Brooke), 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings John and Kit Darling.

Nora graduated from Ryerson University, Toronto, and Goddard College, Plainfield, VT. She went on to teach 1st grade for many years at Perkinsville Elementary School. She was an active member of the Santa Claus Club for 40 years. Nora also served others through Habitat for Humanity, including as President of the the Springfield chapter; Garden Club; Springfield Hospital Ladies Auxillary; and as a founding board member of the Southern Vermont Recreation Center. In addition, Nora accompanied Henry on many Rotary sponsored humanitarian service trips to Honduras. In recognition of her many years of service to others, Nora was named Springfield Citizen of the Year in 2008.

Nora's family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Hanover Terrace and Bayada Hospice for the loving care they gave Nora in her last months. As was their wish, a joint memorial service will be held for Nora and Henry on June 7th at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, 10 Pleasant Street, Springfield, VT.
