Norman E. Marion

Norman E. Marion, 89, of Sharon, died peacefully Sunday December 6, 2015 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born at home in Jaffrey on May 6, 1926 son of the late Emile and Exilda (Christian) Marion.

During World War II at the age of 17 he left high school to enlist in the US Navy.
He served as Radioman Third Class on the USS Goss and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 4 Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Star.

Upon returning home following the War, Norman went back to school and graduated from Conant High School in Jaffrey.

He was a former member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 in Jaffrey where he had served as Finance Officer and Boys State Chairman. He also was a member of Squad #11 Sons of the American Legion and presently was a member of American Legion Post #24 in Marlborough.

Norman was employed as a foreman with the Jaffrey Textile Mills. He also was an engraver, working for Paul Hobbs in Peterborough and later at the American Guernsey Cattle Club, also in Peterborough. Following his retirement he did engraving from his home until recently when health issues prevented him from continuing.

Norman had served the Town of Sharon as Selectman for eight years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid metal detector even having panned for gold in Alaska. He had been very active in several bowling leagues in Peterborough.

Norman is survived by his wife of 65 years Pauline (Cuddihee) Marion of Sharon; two daughters Sharon Cook and her husband Charlie and Frances Hyvarinen all of Jaffrey; two grandchildren Phillip Cook and Christina Hyvarinen both of Jaffrey.

Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street in Jaffrey on Wednesday December 9, 2015 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 12:00 Noon in St. Patrick Church, 85 Mai Street, Jaffrey. Rev.Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will officiate. Military Honors will be rendered following the Mass.

Burial will be in the family lot in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey at a later date.
