Robert E. Knight Sr., 82, a Lifelong Rindge resident passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, following a period of declining health.

Whether you knew him for his hardnosed brutal honesty, his lighthearted sense of humor, or the Stubborn US Marine that he was, Robert had a soft side and huge heart and those who knew him knew it well.

Robert was born in Peterborough, NH, on July 30, 1943, a son to the late Ainsworth and Eva (Poland) Knight. He had many stories of childhood with his many siblings he enjoyed laughing about. He promptly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country honorably and with great pride.

Throughout his life, Robert was known as a hardworking and versatile man whose skills allowed him to excel in many professions. Over the years, he served his community as both a firefighter and a police officer. He later dedicated much of his career to operating heavy equipment for Park Construction and Brox Industries for the Local 4, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment to his trade and with Minuteman Concrete as an over-the -road driver with repeated trips between the US and Canada.

After retiring he enjoyed taking road trips with family to NASCAR races and seeing new places. As a lifetime NASCAR fan, family KNEW what Sundays where for. He was a proud member of the VFW, American Legion and Rindge Veterans Association and was instrumental of helping get the Veterans Memorial and flag poles installed in town.

As a proud community member, Robert had vast knowledge of both Rindge and New Hampshire history; second only to his remarkable knowledge of how to drive to get anywhere, including what routes were the best to take. He amazed and helped people with his knowledge and guidance.

He is survived by his many children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Robert will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his community and country, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey.

A graveside service will be celebrated to honor Robert's life on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:00AM in Hillside Cemetery located on Goddard Road, Rindge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Roberts's name to Monadnock Kitty Rescue, 11 Plantation Dr, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
