Robert W. Ojala

Robert W. Ojala, 87, of Jaffrey, died peacefully Sunday night, December 10, 2017 at the Monadnock Community Hospital, after a period of failing health.

He was born on July 16, 1930 in Londonderry, VT, son of the late Irene Ojala, and raised by his grandparents. He was a member of the Conant High School Class of 1948.

He had married Mary Elizabeth Eaves on June 17, 1951 and they enjoyed 21 years of marriage until her death on January 25, 1972. Later he married Doris M. Sherwood; she also died earlier on August 7, 2004.

Mr. Ojala had worked for the Town of Jaffrey for many years as an equipment operator. He was proud to operate and care for each piece of equipment he was entrusted with, whether it was a truck or a dozer. He had also worked for Henry Belletete, R. H. Wilson, Inc. and Harris Construction in Peterborough.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a strong Yankees fan, as well as a fan of NASCAR. He did like the New England teams of the Patriots and Boston Celtics, and always loved sneaking out for a great breakfast at his favorite HomeTown Diner in Rindge. He had belonged to the Connecticut State Grange for over 25 years.

Mr. Ojala was a very loving father and son-in-law. In addition to his wives, Mr. Ojala was also predeceased by his son, Robert John Ojala on December 22, 2008.

He is survived by his daughter: Jane Stone of Munsonville, NH; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur and Cynthia Hamilton of Jaffrey, NH; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and many cousins and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River St. Jaffrey, NH. Burial will take place in the spring at Cutter Cemetery in Jaffrey.
