Russell 'Glen' Peterson, lovingly known as Glen, passed away August 6, 2026 at Langdon Place in Keene, NH at the age of 88. Glen was born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 27, 1938, the son of Gov. Russell Wilbur Peterson and Lillian Turner Peterson. Glen was the eldest of five children. Glen was a resident of Jaffrey for forty years until he moved to Langdon Place. He taught art at Mascenic High School from 1976 until 2003 when he retired.
Glen was passionate about painting, bird watching, gardening and farming, volunteering, model trains, Boy Scouts, sailing and reading. In his youth, he spent many summers taking long rides on the Hiawatha train line and working on his grandparent’s dairy farm in Wisconsin. He lived and studied painting with the Wyeth family in the 1950’s and spent time with the family at their studios in Chadds Ford, PA and Maine. Glen served in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and was assigned coastal patrol on the Eastern Atlantic. He loved to discuss and read about topics related to World War II. He was also involved with the Unitarian Church in Peterborough, NH and assisted with their weekly community spaghetti dinners.
He is survived by his two sisters, Elin and Kris, his four children: Karin, Erica, Eric, and Andrew as well as three grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Memorial Donations may be made in his name to the Peterborough Unitarian Church, 25 Main St. Peterborough NH 03458. Please note "Weekly Community Supper" on the memo line.
