Scott Honkala

Scott Robert Honkala, 53, of Lake Placid, Florida passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021, in Gardner, MA after a lengthy battle with COVID-19.

Scott was born in Ishpeming, MI on June 27, 1968, to Frank and Shirley (Koskela) Honkala. He graduated from Westwood High School in Ishpeming in 1986 and moved soon after to New Ipswich, NH, where he met and married the love of his life, Sonja Somero.

Scott worked various construction jobs before starting Boss Contractors of Rindge, NH, which specializes in restaurant construction. He was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church and attended services wherever he lived, including Michigan, New Hampshire, and Florida. Scott knew Jesus, but more importantly, Jesus knew Scott.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sonja; his daughters, Barbara (Micah) Ketola, and their children, Kevin, Ella, Max, Zack, Dean, and Mike of New Ipswich, NH, Jessica (Blaire) Ketola, and their children, Amy, Olivia, Madison, Chelsea, Hailey, and Larry of New Ipswich, NH, and Emma (Jayme) Hannu, and their son James of Rindge, NH; his sons, Ivan (Mariah) Honkala, and their children, Walter and Hazel of New Ipswich, NH, Ian Honkala of Rindge, NH, Scott Honkala Jr. and Eli Honkala, both of Lake Placid, FL; his mother, Shirley of Ishpeming, MI, his sister, Ann (Tim) Lequia of Champion, MI; his brothers, Calvin (Mary) Honkala of Ishpeming, MI, Keith (Sonja) Honkala of Lantana, FL, Chris Honkala of Ishpeming, MI, and Neil (Stacy) Honkala of Corvallis, MT, Sue Honkala of Big Travse, MI, his father-in-law, David Somero of New Ipswich, NH, Kathy (Rick) Rhoades of Battle Ground, WA, Kristine (Tracy) Matson of Sophia, NC, Sarah (Paul) Karlsen of Hockinson, WA, Nathan (Connie) Somero, David (Myra) Somero, Niel (Krissa) Somero all of New Ipswich, NH, Calvin Somero of Cape Cod, MA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Frank, his brother, Dean, as well as his mother-in-law, Barbara Somero.
Scott enjoyed traveling with Sonja, being on the water, golfing, and spending time with his family. Most of all, Scott enjoyed being called “Grumpy” by his perfect grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 10:30 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 117 Goen Road, New Ipswich, NH.

The funeral service will take place at 11:30 AM, and burial will follow in the Smithville Cemetery on Binney Hill Road in New Ipswich.
