Shirley R. Fryklund, 102, passed away in the comfort of her home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving children.
She was born on December 14, 1923, a beloved daughter of Irving L. and Harriet M. (Treat) Kimpton. Shirley grew up in Malden, MA and was a graduate of Malden High School. Not long after, she married the love of her life, Carl, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.
She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children, creating a warm and welcoming home that became the heart of countless family memories. Later in life, once her children were grown, she enjoyed working as an administrative assistant for a local optometrist.
Known as the ‘Queen of the Jigsaw Puzzle,” Shirley always kept one on her table, ready to assemble. Her favorite hobbies included knitting, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, and gardening. Her hands were rarely still, and her creations were always made with love and care.
Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She was known for knitting a special afghan blanket for each grandchild at birth, and upon her retirement would knit washcloths for everyone. She dearly loved her yearly gatherings with family, which spread across four generations: children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Carl R. Fryklund, and her beloved oldest grandson, Danny Gibbons.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Glynn (Greg) of Rowley, MA, Carole Stashefski (Stan) of Randolph, KS, Richard Fryklund of Santa Barbara, CA, Robert Fryklund (Pat) of Wellfleet, MA, and Russell Fryklund of Jaffrey, NH. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a family who will forever hold her memory close, honoring her life through the love they continue to share with one another.
Services are to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services, located at 312 Marlboro St, Keene, NH 03431.
