Thomas S. O’Hare of Jaffrey Center, NH, passed away at home unexpectedly on July 25, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on August 23, 1943, Tom was known for his intelligence, kindness, compassion, and dry wit and he leaves a lasting impact on his cherished family, friends, and community.

Tom spent his formative years in the Belvidere section of Lowell, where he distinguished himself in athletics, excelling in football and baseball and earning varsity letters throughout his time at Lowell High School, from which he graduated in 1961. Tom remained a dedicated sports enthusiast, faithfully supporting the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox throughout his life. Following his service as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he returned home and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1975.

Tom devoted his life to education and public service. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader who taught at numerous elementary and middle schools over a 35-year career within the Lowell Public School System. He maintained a strong interest in local history, frequently sharing his deep knowledge of Lowell’s families, neighborhoods, and historical events. In retirement, after relocating to New Hampshire, Tom continued his community involvement, serving as a teacher’s aide at Conant High School in Jaffrey and as a dedicated volunteer at the Peterborough Town Library. Tom’s faith was important to him throughout his life. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Nashua and more recently served as a deacon at the Union Congregational Church in Peterborough.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn Teresa O’Hare (Doyle) of Jaffrey Center; his daughter, Elizabeth Doyle O’Hare of Washington, DC; his sister, Linda Testa of New Fairfield, CT; and numerous nieces, nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas F. O’Hare and Anna Bradley O’Hare; sisters, Gail O’Hare Barry and Dawn O’Hare; and brother, James O’Hare.

There will be no calling hours.
